EDITION 09 / 2025

Hey Reader!! 👋🏽

As a recovering perfectionist, I know the fear of getting it wrong - especially when it comes to branding your business.

We want our content to be the best it can be. And that pressure can create a lot of anxiety. Suddenly, choosing a font or a color feels like it carries massive, irreversible consequences.

I get emails all the time from people who are stuck in that place - frozen by brand choices that feel monumental.

And even though my entire career has been about helping people make these decisions and build beautiful, effective brands - here’s the truth that most designers won’t tell you:

It’s just not that important.

I’m not saying brand colors don’t matter. They absolutely do. And yes, fonts affect how your business is perceived. Plus it's also true that design influences brand recognition and audience engagement.

But unless you’re printing thousands of brochures, none of these choices need to be permanent. Especially these days of primarily digital design. You can tweak them later - quickly and easily.

Your website colors? A few clicks or lines of code.
Your fonts? Changed in seconds with a dropdown.
Your Instagram grid? Almost instantly renewed in Canva with “
Change All.”

None of these choices will make or break your business. But the fear, the overthinking, the endless procrastination? That will.

As my friend Jason Zook always reminds me:

Because the truth is: your brand can - and should - evolve. Spending ages trying to get it ‘perfect’ now might actually end up being what holds you back from building something truly brilliant later.

It's why I always tell people who are starting out that they don't need a 'logo' (another unpopular opinion! 😜) - I’d rather they just pick a clean, simple font, write their name, and move on to the stuff that really matters — connecting with people and creating offers that help them.

Changing your font, your color palette, even your logo down the line isn’t a failure — it’s growth. It’s getting clarity. It means you’re evolving, paying attention, making changes that are based on experimentation and new information.

And especially on social media - things move fast. If today’s design doesn’t feel right next week, chances are no one’s going to even notice if you change it. Allow yourself to breathe and detach.

What you stand for and have to say is way more important than the shade of color you use to say it.

Besides - that’s why I’m here — to help you learn to feel confident making those design choices without the stress.😊

You've got this. And I’ve got you.🖤

One tool to rule them all

One of the best things about Canva is that it brings so many creative tools together in one place — no need to juggle half a dozen different apps to get the job done.

But there’s a tool in the Canva ecosystem that often gets overlooked... and honestly? I think it's actually the one tool that could be THE creative engine that helps power the others.

Plus with the new Visual Suite 2.0 update announced at Canva Create 2025, it’s become even more versatile, and even more powerful.

I’m talking about Canva Whiteboards.

I will admit — I used to pretty much just ignore them. I didn’t think I needed a space for brainstorming or mind-mapping. But once I started playing around with the possibilities, I realized just how flexible they are.

Now? They’re quikcly becoming an essential part of my design process — no matter what I’m working on.

If you're intrigued by the ways you can use Canva whiteboards to support and supercharge your business & branding - this week's YouTube video is for you. Please check it out, and let me know what you think:

Meaningful Creations

These days, I’ll take all the positive affirmations I can get 🤣—especially when they come wrapped in rebellion, humour, and a hefty dose of sass. Enter: Sarai Speer.

Sarai spent years deep in the hustle - thriving in the hair and beauty industry, while silently battling addiction, burnout, and an eating disorder. When she got sober and found yoga, she says she finally felt "connected to her body and her bigger purpose".

These days, she channels that into her work, retreats, and a social media presence that’s honestly... a little hard to describe 🤣. But what I can tell you is this: her IG videos - “your daily dose of combative compliments you didn’t even know you needed” - are like a warm hug and a bucket of ice water to the face 😜. They make me laugh and they make me feel better.

🤬 BUT BE WARNED – her content is full of glorious, unapologetic profanity. If swearing makes you clutch your pearls, you might want to sit this one out.

Personally? I love that she’s unashamedly herself. She’s not here to please anyone or play small to fit some outdated societal role. She’s got the best turn of phrase, a magnetic presence, and a kind of fierce eccentricity. And she’s funny as hell.

She’s one of those people who remind me how inspiring I find women who don't try and 'fit in' or satisfy the norm, but rather embrace their power.

Check out her Instagram for yourself - and tell her I sent ya. 😉

That's it for this week you glorious humans. Don't forget that enrollment for CanvaOS opens in just a couple of weeks, so if you wanna streamline your design process and create consistent, professional visuals in Canva without the overwhelm - keep an eye on your inbox!

Keep creating and stay awesome,
